Case # 17002242

On Monday, March 14, 2017 at approximately 9:49 pm, a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Route 29 Northbound, mile marker 18.4. The pedestrian, identified as James Class, age 47, of Lambertville, was standing in the slow lane attempting to stop traffic to allow his wife to exit their driveway.

The driver, identified as Thomas Allen, Jr., age 42, also of Lambertville, was traveling North on Route 29 in the slow lane when he observed a vehicle backing into the roadway. Allen moved into the fast lane to avoid the vehicle; simultaneously, Class moved from the slow lane into the fast lane to avoid Allen’s vehicle. Allen attempted to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful, causing Allen’s vehicle to strike Class.

Speed did not appear to be a factor, and there was no indication that alcohol was involved.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office. Anyone with additional information or any witnesses are encouraged to call (609) 397-3132.

Both pedestrians and drivers are encouraged to exercise caution on roadways and to be aware of their surroundings.
